I assure you, I am better educated than most when it comes to math, science and grammar. I scored in the top 2% of the United States on my SAT's in 2000 and I scored high enough on the ASVAB that I literally had my pick of any career field in the military (I chose the AETC field in the US Navy and went to school to be an FC). The ultimate origin of the word pig is not definitively known but it is speculated that it stems from the Old English word, "picg" defined as a "young swine". Porcelain stems from the root word, "porcellana" which in old Italian refers to a cowrie shell and is so named because of it's resemblance to said shell. You will notice that page contains the pronunciation, spelling, definition AND etymology/history of the word.Īlso, porcelain does not stem from the same root word as that for pig. (Disclaimer: I do linguistics as a hobby, Just sayin'.)Įtymology is the study of a word's origin and development through history.Īnd a "lexicon" is little more than a dictionary and ANY dictionary worth it's salt HAS the etymology of every word it contains.įor example, using your link from earlier: Of course you can define meaning without knowing the etymology - it's what a lexicon does. Sorry - do you know what 'etymology' means?ĭoes it matter for its meaning that 'porcelain' is derived from the word for 'pig' - does it help you to understand what 'porcelain' is in any way? You can't define a word's meaning without understanding the etymology of the word. If your FG looks like those screenshots with those settings there is something badly wrong. If someone want's to point out what i'm doing wrong, I'd be MORE THAN HAPPY to hear it. My FlightGear looks exactly like the pictures I linked. I am on the latest stable release, using ALS, 4x Anti-Aliasing, all shaders to max, all LODs pushed to 3x the default distances, real world weather, TerraSync with WorldScenery 2.0 and my command line is: -enable-random-objects -enable-ai-traffic -geometry=3200x1800 -texture-filtering=16 -fog-nicest -enable-distance-attenuation -enable-clouds3d -shading-smooth -enable-specular-highlight -enable-real-weather-fetch -enable-ai-models -enable-horizon-effect
